About Our School

Tidemill Primary School is a highly successful, innovative and happy school in the heart of Deptford. We have over 30 languages spoken in the school and our children come from a rich variety of backgrounds. They are well behaved, eager to learn and are supported by a team of hard working, talented and dedicated staff.
Our pupils not only achieve excellent test results; among many other things they have been England football champions, performed Shakespeare with the National Theatre, sung opera at Blackheath Halls, sung gospel at the Royal Albert Hall, exhibited their art in West End galleries and been Lewisham tag-rugby champions.
Our vision for Tidemill is clear; we believe that our children must have the best possible education in order to improve their life chances. Our focus, therefore, is on a determined and relentless effort to raise standards.

Ofsted Report

We were delighted to receive a glowing report from Ofsted when they visited the school in June 2008:-

"Tidemill is an outstanding school. It provides a very high quality of education and level of care for its pupils. Pupils achieve very well in the school. Pupils feel part of and proud of their school, know that they are very well looked after and, as a result, they are very keen to learn and to do well. The leadership of the school is outstanding. The headteacher and staff work well as a team and share the common aim of providing the best for the pupils. Teaching and learning are outstanding because the overall high quality of teaching enables pupils to achieve so well.."
(Ofsted, June 2008)

Tidemill: 16th nationally for value-added

Our 2008 results placed us top in Lewisham and 16th in the country for value-added - the measure of the progress children have made since they entered the school. We have been ranked in the top 5% most improving schools for the last 4 years now and our results show that with the proper motivation and high expectations Tidemill pupils can outperform the best.

Teaching School

For the last 3 years Tidemill has worked with London Challenge to support schools in challenging circumstances. This has now expanded to work with the City Challenge and the school has recently been awarded National Support School and National Teaching School status. Parent Feedback

Every year we ask our parents to give us feedback on how they feel the school is performing and whether they feel their children are making progress. This year 96% of our parents responded and the results were overwhelming - 98% said their child enjoyed school, 99% felt the teaching was good, 99% said staff expected a lot of their child and helped them to achieve their goals, 99% felt their child was making good progress and 98% felt the school was well-led and managed. But we don't rest on our laurels at Tidemill - we want to achieve 100% next year so we will be working hard over the coming year to achieve this!
